Slow Food, Slow Wine & Fast Wheels

Cycling Level 3/5

A week of cycling and discovering the Slow Food jewels of Abruzzo

6-8 Cycling Stages

Embark on Slow Food, Slow Wine, & Fast Wheels, a bespoke cycling journey through Abruzzo that harmonizes the thrill of exploration with the soul of Italy’s culinary heritage. Over 6-8 days, pedal 60-80 km daily across rolling hills, vineyards, and Adriatic coastlines, immersing yourself in a region where food and wine are woven into the fabric of daily life. Each day brings intimate visits to 2-3 local producers—artisan cheesemakers, organic wineries, and family-run farms—where you’ll taste their craft and witness time-honored traditions. Designed to adapt to your group’s pace and preferences, this tour invites you to savor Abruzzo’s rhythms, one pedal stroke and one flavorful bite at a time.

Your days begin with invigorating rides through landscapes that shift from mountain valleys to sun-drenched olive groves, guided by the stories of those who steward the land. Meet farmers pressing golden olive oil, pastori aging pecorino in ancient cellars, and vintners bottling Montepulciano d’Abruzzo under the shadow of the Gran Sasso. Hands-on tastings and demonstrations reveal the passion behind each product, while shared meals with producers turn lunch into a celebration of local flavors. This is travel through a “food lens”—where every stop deepens your connection to Abruzzo’s biodiversity and the people preserving its culinary soul.

Beyond the handlebars and the table, Slow Food, Slow Wine, and Fast Wheels unveils a world of hidden villages, medieval castles, and coastal vistas, blending physical adventure with cultural discovery. Evenings unwind at agriturismi or boutique inns, where regional dishes like arrosticini (grilled lamb skewers) and sagne e fagioli (hand-cut pasta) fuel stories of the day’s journey. Whether picnicking in a vineyard at sunset or learning nonna’s pasta-making secrets, this tour crafts unforgettable moments rooted in authenticity. Come pedal, taste, and linger—Abruzzo’s slow-living philosophy awaits, promising a voyage not just through place, but through heart and tradition.
